Inflation Reduction Act

Whether you're a homeowner or a contractor, earn tax credits for eligible Owens Corning insulation 

With the introduction of the Inflation Reduction Act, signed into effect in August of 2022, there are new green incentives for homeowners to help make sustainable improvements more affordable.

Starting on January 1, 2023, homeowners will be able to take advantage of tax credits for making energy efficient home improvements on things like weatherization and efficiency upgrades, installing new electric appliances, and purchasing electric vehicles or rooftop solar systems.

SECTION 25C

Residential Retrofit

Available to homeowners who have upgraded their insulation or air sealing at their primary residence to meet the prescriptive criteria of the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code. The tax credit is available on an annual basis and is 30% of the cost of materials up to $1,200.

Homeowners can use IRS Form 5695 to apply for the tax credit and they should retain the invoice and Owens Corning’s 25C certification statement for their records.

Current law offers 10% up to $500 for lifetime.

SECTION 45L

New Residential Construction

Eligible contractors or building owners may request a tax credit of up to $5,000 for new or substantially rehabilitated single and multi-family homes that meet certain energy efficiency and prevailing wage requirements.

Eligible taxpayers should refer to the 2022 IRS Form 8908 for details on how to qualify and claim the tax credit.

Current law offers $2,000.

SECTION 179D

Commercial & Large Multi-Family Buildings

Taxpayers claiming the deduction can receive as much as $5.00 per square foot when making energy efficiency improvements above certain thresholds to commercial and certain multi-family buildings.

The deduction can be allocated to engineering, architecture, and contractors responsible for creating the technical specifications of a building.

Current law offers up to $1.88 per square foot that reduces power usage up to 50%.
