Toledo Excel

In 2021, the OC Foundation created a scholarship program for students at Toledo Public Schools, giving them the opportunity to participate in the Toledo EXCEL program. Through EXCEL, rising high school freshman from groups typically underrepresented in higher education participate in pre-college academic programs to increase their self-esteem, cultural awareness of diversity, and civic involvement. Among EXCEL's services to high school students are Saturday School, Summer Institutes, tutoring, academic retreat weekends, campus visits, advising for strategic admissions and financial aid, and ethnographic field studies in the U.S. and abroad. The OC Foundation scholarship also provides support for TPS EXCEL students attending the University of Toledo.

Toledo EXCEL has an impressive rate of success. To date, 96% EXCEL scholars have enrolled in college and 84% are college graduates or students matriculating towards college graduation.

IBAIS School for Deaf Children

In 2017 at the request of our local plant team, the Board of the OC Foundation approved funding to build a school for deaf children near our plant in Tlaxcala Mexico. By 2020, the number of students doubled leading the Foundation to approve an addition to the building. The school provides a safe and nurturing environment where the children, and their parents, learn to communicate in sign language.

Jill of All Trades

Since 2014, Jill of All Trades (JOAT) has been providing hands-on experiences to young women in grades 9-12 to introduce them to the possibilities of a career in the trades. These events provide a safe and engaging learning environment where female mentors, faculty and students engage in trades workshops.

Owens Corning began supporting the program in 2021.
