Why Inclusion & Diversity at Owens Corning

At Owens Corning, our Inclusion and Diversity aspiration is that all employees are heard and appreciated for the value each distinct voice brings to the team. Everything we do points to that, our true north.

Appreciation fosters inclusion, which is when every employee is empowered and engaged. The result is high-performing teams and a successful, sustainable company.

Building a Culture of Appreciation

Research overwhelmingly shows that diverse, engaged teams are the highest performers. And, we know that engagement can be tracked back to employees feeling included and appreciated.

Global in Scope,
Human in Scale

We know that I&D can look different in different parts of the world. We empower our I&D leaders across the globe to create a Regional I&D approach relevant to each country/location. That is why we are deploying a regional 2+1 Strategy.

The 2 – Appreciation of differences and gender equity – are globally relevant. Each region then decides what is their +1 additional focus area, based on the needs in their region/country.

Our I&D Strategy

Everything we do in I&D rolls up under three core areas:

  • Building Capability
  • Driving Engagement
  • Increasing Diversity

Building Capability

Global Virtual Inclusive Leader Workshops

These workshops have cascaded from our Executive Committee, to all VPs, and Directors globally, and most recently all of our mid-level leaders globally. This program lays the groundwork and foundation for understanding unconscious bias, what inclusive leadership is and what it looks like, or doesn’t look like. It drives the point home that the way we treat people impacts their ability to perform.

On-Demand Learning & I&D Channel

We also have an extensive ‘I&D toolkit’ resource page on our internal site, that is available to all employees. This toolkit contains many exercises, training materials, suggested reading, videos, assessments, and more. We are constantly assessing and bringing more ways for our employees to continue to grow and learn with us. We also have an internal social channel, I&D @ OC, where employees share what’s on their mind relating to I&D, expressing hopes, dreams, fears, celebrate events and milestones, and everything in between!

Driving Engagement

Affinity Groups

Our Affinity groups help us build a more inclusive and emotionally intelligent culture by raising awareness, building a sense of community, attracting diverse workforce, and recognizing achievements in diversity.

Community Engagement

Volunteerism connects our people with the company in a deep and meaningful way. It is common to see employees proudly wearing their ‘Team OC’ volunteer shirts. As we look toward 2030, we have set a powerful community outreach goal for 100% of our people to participate in community volunteerism. We want our passion for making a difference to continue to make the world a better place.

The program is a strategic partnership between I&D, as well as HR stakeholders and affinity groups, with the goal to increase inclusion and diversity into our interview and talent selection process, while investing in our affinity group members.
