Owens Corning® Lumber

Owens Corning® Lumber for Decking and Structural Framing products are made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced with fiberglass (Advantex® Fiberglas™ by Owens Corning) for outstanding strength and durability.

All our colors come with our heat-reflective technology. Like with any material, lighter colors stay cooler than darker colors. If the surface temperature of your project is a big concern, we recommend selecting from our coolest colors: Barefoot Sand, Barefoot Gray, and White.

We recommend #10 x 3” stainless steel composite deck screws, #9 x 2.5” stainless steel composite deck screws, and #9 x 1.5” exterior grade connector screws. Download our Installation Guide for more information.

While typical 1” composite decking spans a maximum of 16 inches on center or less, OC Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) 5/4x6” spans 24 inches on center. Profile maximum load span is available upon request. Talk to one of our experts.

OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing never needs to be stained, painted, or sealed. Stain and paint do not adhere well to OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Deck Framing as they are made of High-Density Polyethylene.

Non-porous OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing products do not retain any moisture, so you don't need to seal our boards.

Plastic and composite decking products can generate static electricity, particularly in cold weather. Talk to an expert to learn more about special orders with enhanced permanent antistat for OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing.

Rubber-backed mats or grill mats should not be used on plastic or composite decking as they may stain the surface. Mats made of natural fibers are generally preferred.

OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing is rated for ground contact and underwater applications (salt and fresh).

OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) resists stains from sunscreen, suntan oil, insect sprays, and other harsh substances. As with any composite decking material, substances and spills should be cleaned from the surface as soon as possible for the best overall appearance.

OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing remains well within its color family throughout their lifetime. WEARDECK™ includes a 25-year Ultraviolet (UV) Protection Package to maximize color retention. UV rays from the sun are a major cause of any composite decking fade. Like any decking or colored surface, some weathering can be expected.

We recommend using white construction chalk on OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing boards for easy removal. Colored chalks and pencils should not be used to mark lines on any composite decking. Construction chalk comes in various colors and can be permanent.

Store OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) and Structural Framing boards on a flat level surface with supports every two feet. Avoid laying loose boards on uneven surfaces or leaning boards as they will, like all composites, tend to bend toward that surface particularly in the high heat of summer.

OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) includes a directional wood grain pattern. Directional wood grains are typical for all monochromatic, roller-embossed, grained decking products.

For a uniform look, install OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) boards with grain patterns running in the same direction as indicated by the directional lines on the sides of our boards. Following the directional lines is the choice and responsibility of the builder, contractor, or end-user. We recommend following the directional lines and grain of OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) for appearance purposes only as there will be no impact on decking performance if one chooses to ignore the directional grain.

We recommend rinsing OC™ Lumber for Decking (WEARDECK™) with water then scrubbing the residues of salt or calcium chloride and rinsing again. If needed, standard cleaning solutions can be used.
